This past weekend yours truly watched the 1998 cult film "Six-String Samurai". The film was recommended by my good friend Benn Stimmel, owner of Beatnix Burger Barn . "Six-String Samurai" is a post-apocalyptic chanbara tale about a lone wanderer accompanied by a orphan boy who fights his way across a nuclear wasteland to claim his rightful throne as the new king of Vegas. In a nutshell, it's "The Book of Eli" meets "Lone Wolf and Cub" meets "The Wizard of Oz" bolstered by a rockabilly soundtrack. The film's charm comes from the simple fact that it never takes itself too seriously. Also, it has the same quirkiness as the television shows you see on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block. What draws you to the film the most is the concept/visual : it's Buddy Holly wielding a FREAKIN' kitana blade!!!
